I need you bad, I need you now!

South Mississippi Humane Society

Hello darlings.  I have been rowing against the current and doing a ton of things that haven’t been as fun as sharing stories with you good looking people.  I have missed you.  I tried to answer everyones emails personally over the last few months and as I said in each of those, I am not gone for good just on a hiatus.   Still deep in the middle of real world shark infested undertow, it’s really nothing more than what we all do everyday, but right now I have had to focus the majority of my energy in the boring grey landscape of the real world instead of on here with you indigo ultraviolet glitter slinging darlings.

So what brought me back to write this post today?

Well it came to my attention Tuesday.  About 5 weeks ago, we were adopted by a litter of kittens that were more like teenagers.  It became clear that the actual owners had no interest in them and the mother of the cat that had them was suspected pregnant again and would attack them.

You guys already know I have my 9 yr old black lab rescue Mei, and the Dalmatian rescue named Loki who had multiple surgeries after he had his pelvis crushed and his femur dislocated and fractured.  Then of course the evil 8 year old Feral cat named Dante who has made it her lifes mission to hate me and tear up or use anything that belongs solely to me as her person restroom.  ( she also hacked my facebook and when I outed her on this very blog read here, she retained the best legal council and sued me for slander). Needless to say our pet plate was already over capacity as you can see in this picture.

loki, mei, dante, our lovely pets

it's like survivor island only no matter how I vote no one leaves.

and THEN………………………………….

BAM 4 new very attentive and playful abandoned kittens show up.  I knew they were WAY to old to be prime candidates for adoption if we took them to a shelter.   Even though I am  a dog person,  they didn’t ask for this, and I couldn’t drop them off where I knew they would end up being behind bars for life or even worse, put down.  If you doubt me  watch this video of them that keeps us entertained when the cable is out.

The downside, 4 more mouths to feed, and the mere mathematical fact that 4 cats will be 12 cats in 4 months, which will turn into 46 cats in 9 months. We were trying to find solutions.

So I contacted the Humane Society of South Mississippi even though it was an entirely different county. There’s not much as far as choice. Via a series of emails and phone calls, we were able to get the 4 strays spayed and neutered.  It was at that point that the universe  broke into a deep smile which caused all the stars to align.

This shelter, not even in my county, has taking in 39 pets this week from a horrible hoarding situation.  They were overwhelmed from Katrina and worked years to reunite thousands of pets with their families.  They turned no one do, even when there was no electricity or running water for over a month.  Then factor in the oil spill.  Everyone on the coast has been repeatedly slammed time and time again, yet they have figured out how to barely keep their heads above the water with the help of volunteers and donations.  They are warriors for those with no voice.  It’s pretty amazing.

Yet they helped us by helping those strays.  How, I don’t know but they pulled off some magic.

While there I found out they along with the rest of  the world was in the running for a $20k grant from the ASPCA.  The way to vote was go to the website, click on contest, and highlight MS- South Mississippi Humane Society by clicking on it,  then entering your email and captcha hit enter.  In a little bit, you will get an email to confirm your vote and you have to click on the confirm link in that email otherwise it doesn’t count.

Yesterday I found out about it.  I logged on, and they were in 4th place of the entire planet.  WOW !  Hello and MEOW!  our little bitty gulf is in 4th?  Mind boggling.  Also this means if I can get them 6k to 7k votes by 2pm on Monday they will get the much much needed grant.

Here is the link-

A) You can click HERE to be taking to the ASPCA voting link.

B)  click on MS- South Mississippi Humane Society, then enter your email and the catpcha and submit, each email address you have can vote 1 time per day.

I had another run in with a D2D.  For those of you not aware that’s a Door 2 Door Salesman. (* This is a repost from another blog that I wrote and was published in January 2011*)
I used to  try to be patient, and kind, because I  live so far out in the country that if you are doing this on foot, who ever dropped you off hates your guts and wants you to get eaten by dogs or die of exposure.
But over the last 5 years a new bread of D2D has developed.  The buy this meat from my truck guy.  Yes  A guy drives up to my front door in a Truck and tries to convince me to spend a couple hundred bucks on frozen meat.
I will wait a second and let that sink in, door to door meat salesmen.  Yeah not at all hot, not at all cool, they are always driving super expensive personal trucks and speak like snake oil salesmen.  So here’s my question,  ” how fucking desperate do you have to be to be a door to door meat salesman in the rural deep south?”
Wouldn’t it be safer to clean tiger shit at the zoo while wearing a a porterhouse suit?
Or try to sell doughnuts at a Weight Watchers Meeting?
Seriously these people must be freaking nuts.   You need to know this, when I am presented with someone who is clearly nuckin futs I will raise the bar.
They never win.  I have actually developed an entire new response just for them.
This will provide you with much laughter, and keep you off any D2D  list that may be floating around.
You need the following simple 4 household items:
Is it fitting together for you yet?   Take the red paint, get some on the apron, and some on the gloves and some on the knife you never intend to use again.
Store in a hall closet near the front door.
When the doorbell rings, slip on this “D2D readiness gear” over whatever you are wearing.
Fling open the door and use my fail proof line.
‘ PERFECT TIMING.  SO GLAD YOU SHOWED UP,  THE PESKY NEIGHBOR WE’VE BEEN EATING HAS RUN OUT, AND I AM DYING TO TRY THAT NEW DEEP FREEZE, ARE YOU ALONE?”
Only once did a person not walk backwards or run,  and that person was literally frozen in fear and still trying “outsell” me on his meat.   I kept saying, how did you find me? Did anyone see you pull in?  Are you being followed?  Won’t you come in?  Please don’t mind the mess I was making room in the freezer.”

Once he got the hints, he took off or his truck as fast as his portly little ham hocks would carry him.

So I give this gift to you.  The gift of finally knowing how to run off the D2D people.  We all know the sign is nothing more than a challenge to them.

Go forth and have fun, remember they came to your door.

Focus on the Thanks pushing through the rest

Posted on September 9, 2011 by ThePeachy1 in FaceBook Fun, Funny Stuff Friday, It's Juicy, The Peachy Tree
Thank you to all the good things in my life

Recently I have been quite noticeably absent.  It hasn’t been because I am on a tropical island being served frozen drinks by my sexy boytoy Brendan Fraiser.

Damn it.

Instead after over  a year of daily posts on 3 blogs and doing some freelance writing for a few collectives I reached an impasse.  This site is created to “Be Peachy”, to remember that life is a journey not a job,  to make people smile no matter the struggles or adversity at hand.  The easiest way to put it out there for everyone to relate is the old adage,  ” if you don’t have anything nice to say keep your mouth shut”, or in this case fingers off the keyboard.

So over the last couple of weeks/months I have had so many negative things that are just too hard to swallow in private let alone in a public setting. I opted to just voluntarily silence myself until I could work through a few things.

Today, instead of complaining no matter how worthy the situation is, I opt to be Thankful.

I am Thankful:

That I am here today, alive and breathing.

That I am not in a hospital today causing me to be separated from those I love and  causing undo emotional and financial burden

That I live in a country where we can openly debate, write about whatever we want, and have discussions that may not be popular but are not criminal.

That I have 3 children who are relatively healthy and happy even if their journey is not the one I would have chosen for them.

That I have a husband who is there thick and thin, letting me be me, stupid, silly, in pj’s, and that accepts me as his friend.

That even though saying we are financially strapped would be a HUGE understatement, we will have food for dinner and will eat under our homes roof, at least 1 more day.

That my husband has a job.

That in general I have more good hours in week than bad.

That my youngest brought home a progress report with all A’s, and my oldest received her bachelors degree in the mail to my home so I can frame and hang it.

That my middle child is no longer missing, that I am not longer emailing pictures of him to law enforcement or outreach programs while crying several times a day.

That I have clean water to drink, a roof that does not leak, and luxuries such as the internet , and that my house is not flooded or damaged by the storms and fires wreaking havoc on several states in the US.

That I have the ability to hug my youngest child ever day.

That my oldest child chooses to return to our house a couple times a month and I can watch her become a grown woman I am in awe of.

That the internet has allowed me a wider selection of people to consider friends, even if I have never met them, and the ability to reach out to those that I knew long ago.

That hearing my amazing father or  interesting mothers voice is only a phone call or 30 minute drive away.

That all of my loved ones are home and safe, while I know so many that worry hourly about their loved ones serving in a war in danger daily.

That I can see the colors of the sky, feel the wind on my face, hear a dog bark, and walk from room to room.

finally I am thankful for you,  for being there, offering hugs, help, support, and laughter, you are all amazing..

Thank you to all the good things in my life

despite the negatives I am thankful for the good
